<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - A Relaxed Sunday at BFF Winery (Balestrieri Family Farms) - The Setting</image:title>
<image:caption>The atmosphere at the wine tasting room was warm, open, and relaxed — the kind of place that invites you to linger. It felt less like a formal tasting room and more like an afternoon picnic with friends. Plenty of outdoor space, easy conversation, sunshine, and no pressure to rush through pours. For a laid-back weekend reset, it checked all the boxes. We sampled five wines: Viognier, Chardonnay, Rosé, Pinot Noir, and a Red Blend. The whites were bright and approachable, the rosé lively, and the reds smooth and drinkable — all reflecting a friendly, small-farm sensibility rather than heavy-handed winemaking.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - A Relaxed Sunday at BFF Winery (Balestrieri Family Farms) - Highlights</image:title>
<image:caption>- Viognier: My favorite. Crisp, clean, and refreshing with bright stone-fruit and floral notes. Good acidity and salinity makes this an ideal wine to be paired with raw oysters or light seafood. - Pinot Grigio: Clean white with a pink grapefruit finish, aromas of lemons and hint of vanilla - BFF White: Pleasant and balanced, a good summer-sip when you want something round but not heavy. - Rosé: Fresh and fruity with expressions of strawberries, guava and tropical notes, rounded mouthfeel, perfect for the afternoon sun and outdoor picnic.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - A Journey Through Pauillac: An Evening with Château Pichon Baron - 2009 Pauillac</image:title>
<image:caption>The 2009 is a “showy” opulent wine, it immediately grabs your attention with dark cherries and blackberries, strong spicy notes but also earthy soil-clay character. A very complex wine whose character evolve through the evening and would go great with a nice piece of steak. See my wine reviews here at Vivino</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Where Legacy Meets Craft: A Wine Experience at Schug Winery - 2023 Pinot Noir, Petaluma Gap</image:title>
<image:caption>The Petaluma gap is close to the West Coast and characterized by fog and cooler climate. This is a young wine light ruby red, good cherry notes and eucalyptus. Tannins are light and very much enjoyable on its own.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Where Legacy Meets Craft: A Wine Experience at Schug Winery - 2009 Pinot Noir, Carneros Estate</image:title>
<image:caption>This aged Pinot Noir is quite interesting indeed. Notes of mature cherries came through but there is a bit of funkiness in the wine, with earthy notes of animal fur. The wine color shows copper ruby rims. It is quite unique triggering different flavor profiles in your palate. Other Pinots tasted include the 2022 Estate grown (the younger version of the 2009), 2022 Dijon clone 115 Block X, 2022 Roberts Rd, and 2021 and 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon. <image:caption>The oldest of the three wines we tasted at Chateau du Ferrand. The copper brown hints on the wine shows the age layered by aroma of dark cherries but do not be fooled by the color as this wine still displays a powerful acidity that will allow the wine to age beautifully. I am also picking up the minerality and earthiness from clay, and an herbaceous notes from this wine.</image:caption>

<image:caption>After the tour, we sat down to taste the wines. The first wine was a 2021 La Croix de Montlabert which I described as a great summer BBQ wine with a bright acidity with lots of cherries and candied fruit flavors but it is also nicely balanced by the earthy notes from the wine such as leather and oak. For the value, this is a great and easy to drink wine for a summer BBQ. The 2nd wine we tasted was the 2019 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. This wine has more prominent black fruit, vanilla notes, and tobacco. Medium tannins but mild. A great value for this Bordeaux wine. You can find my tasting notes and comments in Vivino.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Impressive !!! A well-balanced structured sparkling Chardonnay with a welcoming nose of vanilla, floral bouquet and brioche notes. A medium acidity with a clean crisp finish. It really drinks and tastes like a Champagne, very elegant and luxurious but also comes at a price $145 per bottle - ouch. As much as I love this, I am still not sure if I would spend that for a bottle.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Full day wine tasting itinerary at Willamette Valley - Evenstad Reserve, 2011 and 2017</image:title>
<image:caption>Having a side-by-side vertical tasting of the Evenstad Reserve was really nice as you can now see the evolution of this wine over time. The 2017 younger version, has a nice vanilla and cherry cola notes on the nose, more fruit-forward but still low tannins and a silky finish. Quite an elegant wine. Then, as you go into the 2011, the fruit is subdued but you get more cigar and cacao on the nose. A different expression of the same wine essentially but such different characters. Amazing! Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience for us. Tommy and I really enjoyed walking down the hallways, the outdoor area and grounds of the winery. The tasting fee was $60 per person, not inexpensive but considering the quality of the wine we tasted that morning, it may seem fair these days.</image:caption>

The La Mysteriale CDP has smooth tannins, good acidity, and intense notes of spices, pepper, red cherries and blackberries. On its own, this wine is well-balanced and would naturally go quite well with the charred or BBQ meats.</image:caption>

Enticing complexity on the nose, bold in flavors, but most importantly an elegant silky long finish lingering on the palate. It is definitely a wine to impress.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Napa must-visit Winery: Joseph Phelps Vineyards - The Dining Room</image:title>
<image:caption>For those seeking a more full and elevated experience, JPV also offers a full lunch with wine pairing which unfortunately we did not get to try this time around. The menu definitely looks enticing but comes at a price tag as well, $350 and up. It does seem a little steep to me but if it can be a good way to pamper oneself if you are seeking for a full wine & dine experience here. I do love how bright and spacious this dining room is, great for small group events in a rather intimate setting. JPV does a great job with setting the right mood here, their decor is grand and luxurious. The indoor lounge seating and armchairs are also very comfortable and relaxing. Definitely a great winery to visit in Napa Valley and one to impress if you have guest visiting the area.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Gold in a glass: An unforgettable visit to Chateau d’YQuem - The Noble Rot</image:title>
<image:caption>The noble rot as they call it, is the process by which the fungus botrytis cinera infects the grapes and concentrates the sugars and flavors in the grapes. What makes this region really unique is where the two rivers meet it creates a microclimate where morning fog rolls in and disappears by the afternoon, allowing the botrytis fungus to work their magic. We stood among clusters of golden shriveled grapes, marveling that such humble-looking or even ugly-looking grape could make something so divine. And yes we were so lucky to have tasted one. Sweet, concentrated, with an intensity unlike anything I have tasted.</image:caption>

<image:caption>And finally - the moment. We tasted both the 2006 and 2016 vintages that day, and I must say, the experience was ethereal. The 2016 was youthful but already nicely layered with flavors of candied tangerine, wild honey, apricot and notes of almond. In contrast, the 2006 was more developed and mature with aromas of vanilla, caramel and hints of saffron. Its rich texture lingers in your mouth like the last note of a beautiful song. Both undeniably luxurious yet silky in its finish, sweet but never heavy balanced by its acidity - in part this is what d’YQuem is so famous for.</image:caption>

The 3-course pre-fixe lunch menu was truly the perfect way for us to end our visit and gastronomic experience at Lyon, enjoying French cuisine with a modern twist. The best part to all this is how inexpensive the meal cost, only 25 Euros per person for 3 courses. What an incredible value, you’d never get anything like this in the Bay Area. <image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Inside Commis Bar: Michelin Dining & Wine Pairing - Menu & Wine</image:title>
<image:caption>Personally, I enjoy the challenge of picking my own wines to pair with what I eat so I did not naturally opt for the wine pairing. After all, I tend to pick my wine or drinks based on my mood so I wanted to factor that in. Looking at the menu at first glance, I was intrigued by what I could pair the first starters on the menu to go with - scallop and eggs. Both can give a creamy rich character but the chili water is throwing things off a bit. After speaking with the sommelier, I decided to go into a more adventurous pairing and went with an orange wine for my first glass.</image:caption>

<image:title>Food & Wine Blog - Inside Commis Bar: Michelin Dining & Wine Pairing - Queen of the Sienna Amber, CA</image:title>
<image:caption>This is actually a local wine from the Sierra Foothills wine region consisting of a blend of Verdelho, Albarino, Muscat and Chardonnay, all organically grown on the Rorick Heritage Vineyard. The winemakers took great care in minimizing oxidation when making this wine while showcasing the elegance and aromas of the white grapes and limestone, and it really shows. This is truly an elegant, well-balanced and refreshing summer wine I must say. I love the balance in acidity and tannins, overlaid by aromas of dried apricots, toasted nuts and ripen fruit flavors. Pairing with food was surprisingly good, the Hokkaido scallop in chili water paired perfectly well with this wine in my opinion. The salinity in the wine counteracted the spiciness but enhanced the scallops. The creamy egg yolks and smoked dates married nicely with the acidity and tannins from the orange wine.</image:caption>

<image:caption>For this amazing and luxurious pork belly course, I decided to pick the Spanish red from the Rioja region. This 2021 LZ Rioja had a nice bright acidity from black and blueberries that balanced off the fattiness in the pork belly. The light vanilla and oak flavors from this wine adds to the pork belly.</image:caption>
